The Price of Freedom
Freedom is not a given or a constant.
Historically, and especially now, it has to be fought for,
secured and defended.
This exacts a heavy toll for individuals, communities or countries: from displacement and loss of ‘normal’ daily living, to the horrible loss of life and human potential. The struggle for freedom can eventually lead to triumph, forming new national identities and forging new ways of life. The legends and stories born of the struggle for freedom become part of storytelling passed through cultural heritage
from generation to generation.
Today we are witness to the fight for freedom that is unfolding
in several countries around the world:
Ukraine, Georgia, Iran, Afghanistan, Nepal,
as well as the on-going fight for the freedom of speech
and the right for self-determination.
‘The price of freedom’ is seeking to explore these themes
in a group exhibition.
